This update provides a summary of recent displacement, along with developments from the UNHCR co-led Sector/Clusters of CCCM, Shelter/NFI and Protection.
KEY STATISTICS
- In total, approximately 170,595 people have been newly displaced in northern and southern Syria due to recent developments. This includes:
o 75,775 people newly displaced in affected areas of Aleppo (63,752) and Idleb (12,023) governorates, northern Syria, due to fighting since 1 February 2016 (figures as of 29 February).
o 8,150 people newly displaced in affected areas of Al-Hasakeh Governorate, northern Syria, due to fighting since late January 2016 (figures as of 9 March).
o 86,670 people newly displaced in affected areas of Dar’a and Quneitra governorates, southern Syria, due to fighting from November 2015 to February 2016 (figures as of 29 February).
NEW POPULATION MOVEMENTS

CCCM Cluster members in northern Syria are verifying reports of an estimated 2,545 new IDPs arriving to the subdistrict of Maaret Tamsrin in Idleb Governorate. IDPs are reportedly fleeing from northern Aleppo (A’zaz and Al Bab sub-districts). The CCCM Cluster will work on verifying these numbers within the next 24 hours, with the final figure to be included in the official numbers reported above.

New IDP arrivals have been reported in the existing IDP sites in northern A’zaz district in Aleppo Governorate. According to a preliminary analysis, these IDPs are part of a secondary displacement from A’zaz town. The CCCM Cluster is in the process of verifying these numbers and expects that the total number of people in IDP sites will increase by 3,000 individuals.

According to Government of Jordan sources, there are 45,000 Syrian asylum seekers at the berm (figures as of 7 March). As of 8 March, UNHCR has registered 25,631 of the individuals at Rukban and 3,060 of those at Hadalat. Of those located at Rukban, 58 per cent are from Homs, around 27 per cent are from Aleppo, and nearly 7 per cent are from Ar-Raqqa. Of those located at Hadalat, around 33 per cent are from Dar’a, nearly 39 per cent are from Homs, and nearly 16 per cent are from Rural Damascus (as of 8 March).
CONTEXTUAL DEVELOPMENTS

The International Syria Support Group (ISSG) Humanitarian Task Force met yesterday, on Wednesday 9 March, in Geneva. Following the meeting, a joint press conference was held with the UN Special Envoy Staffan de Mistura, Special Advisor Jan Egeland, and UN Resident/Humanitarian Coordinator Yacoub El Hillo.

Since 1 January 2016, the UN has made 52 requests for cross-line convoys to 46 locations, aiming to reach a total of 1.75 million people.

As of 9 March, 12 of 18 identified destinations have been reached by 33 inter-agency convoys, reaching 238,845 people in besieged and hard to reach areas.
