The humanitarian situation has drastically deteriorated in the south province of Sweida following days of fighting. While the total figure of casualties is still unconfirmed, the IDP Taskforce reports at least 145 600 people have been displaced as of 22 July.
Critical services have been disrupted, acute shortages of fuel and medical supplies have left hospitals overwhelmed, with many facilities non-operational. There is a widespread lack of food and water. Shelters suffer from overcrowding, poor sanitation, and lack of basic items.
The situation is further compounded by humanitarian access being heavily constrained. Despite two convoys delivered by the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, international actors like the UN and ICRC remain blocked. Ongoing advocacy efforts for humanitarian corridors continue.
DG ECHO is closely monitoring the situation and has called for safe and unimpeded access to all affected areas. DG ECHO humanitarian partners are responding to the emergency supporting access to water, health and essential relief items for affected communities.
