Syria and Environs: Estimates and Locations of Displaced Persons (as of 27 August 2013)

As of mid-2013, numbers of IDPs range from 4.5 million (UN) to 5.1 million (Syria Needs Analysis Project). Lack of access, assessment, and registration makes these only rough estimates.
Most IDPs live with host families or in schools, mosques, and sports facilities in towns throughout Syria.
Roughly 20 tent camps, mostly near the Turkey and Jordan borders, also shelter IDPs. In addition, there are an estimated 420,000 Palestinian refugees whose aid requirements have increased as a result of the conict.
