Situation Overview
Since 30 June 2025, fast-moving wildfires have swept through rural Latakia Governorate, displacing over 1 120 people and affecting more than 5 000 residents in a region already weakened by conflict and economic collapse. Fuelled by extreme drought, persistent high winds (60 km/h+), and rugged mountainous terrain, the blazes have consumed over 18 000 ha (180 km²) of forest and farmland1—the largest wildfire event in Latakia in at least five years.
Critical infrastructure damage, unexploded ordnance threats, and limited resources continue to hamper response efforts.
