SITUATION OVERVIEW
Clashes between Syrian Government forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) began on 6 January in Aleppo city, particularly in Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods. After a ceasefire was announced on 11 January in Aleppo, insecurity spread to eastern rural Aleppo and parts of Ar-Raqqa, Deir-ez-Zor and AlHasakeh governorates. The renewed hostilities combined with extreme winter weather have worsened the humanitarian situation, disrupted essential infrastructure, restricted movement, and limited the delivery of humanitarian assistance. On 18 January, a new ceasefire agreement in Ar-Raqqa, Deir-ez-Zor and Al-Hasakeh governorates between the Government of Syria and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) was announced, which has largely held.
Since 6 January, at least 23 civilians have been killed, more than a hundred injured1 and approximately 165,000 have been displaced.
