Providing Ramadan food in Syria

Islamic Relief is distributing 17,000 foodpacks inside Syria this Ramadan.

For the last three weeks, Islamic Relief has been delivering family-sized foodpacks, containing around 45 kilograms of essential ingredients, including flour, rice, beans and tuna. Since Ramadan began, we have also distributed 10,000 cartons of dates.

Twenty-nine lorries transported over 800 tonnes of food to northern areas of Syria. Currently, these food items are being delivered to Syrians living on the border with Turkey, as well as those in Aleppo, Idlib, Al-Hasaka, Al-Raqqa, Deir Azzor, and the suburbs of Hama, Homs and Latakya.

Working with local and international development agencies, the World Food Programme, and local non-partisan groups, we are distributing these foodpacks, which last a family of seven up to one month.

This will provide 17,000 families with a respite from the increasing food insecurity in Syria- giving them with the security of a nutritional meal at the end of their fasting day.

Each foodpack contains:

Flour – 25kg
Rice – 5kg
Sugar – 5kg
Lentils- 3kg
Oil – 2 litres
Beans – 1kg
Tomato paste – 800g
Tahina – 800g
Tuna – 960g
Syrian dessert – 750g

Islamic Relief provides support to Syrian civilians irrespective of belief, gender or age, and based solely on human need.
