Syria

One thousand days

08/12/2013 - 15 March 2011 is generally considered as the beginning of the Syria crisis with its “Day of Rage” which resulted in protests in al-Hasakah, Daraa, Deir ez-Zor, and Hama, and smaller demonstrations in Damascus. It is exactly 1000 days since that date, and the Syrian crisis is now officially classified as a civil war. The repercussions on its people and on those of the region are enormous and the challenge of helping the affected populations is becoming more and more desperate as the numbers increase. The only glimmer of hope for Commissioner Georgieva is the planned peace conference in January, which could bring a stop to the “one thousand days of death, fear, hardship, deprivation and despair. One thousand days in which we are witnessing the creation of a lost generation”.
