Key Highlights:

  • In 2024, and according to CCCM, a total of 111,000 people were displaced in Northwest Syria. Main drivers being the conflict in Lebanon, the escalation of hostilities in October-November and the changes on the provision of humanitarian services. By December, and because of the fall Al Assad, 15 IDPs sites were deactivated (41K people), through the merging and return of IDPs to their original areas.
  • The escalation of hostilities reported between October and December 2024, increased the level of contamination across NWS and particularly in the ex-frontline areas in Idleb governorate (Saraqab, Ariha, Atareb, Daret Azza); increasing the level of exposure to explosive ordnance related incidents for host communities and, particularly, IDPs returning to these areas.
  • During the second semester a sharp increase on social tension was reported in most of the reception areas directly linked to the access to services and the disputes on house, land and property related issues, leading to clashes and confrontation.
