Between 11 and 13 January, heavy rainfall affected multiple IDP sites across Aleppo and Idleb countryside, causing damage to tents, shelters and properties.
According to the Camp Coordination and Camp Management Cluster, some 80 IDP sites were impacted, affecting around 68 000 IDP (13 000 families). Around 4 000 shelters and tents were damaged, while more than 220 were fully destroyed.
The floods occurred less than two weeks after a severe snowstorm which already damaged nearly 5 000 shelters and affected around 158 000 people across 90 IDP sites in Aleppo Governorate, further exacerbating vulnerabilities.
Priority needs include the replacement of damaged tents, plastic sheets and insulation materials, raising tent flooring in flood-prone camps, winter assistance, heating materials and non-food item kits.
DG ECHO partners are responding through Crisis Modifiers and other available funding to address urgent needs in the affected camps.
