UN Humanitarian Chief Valerie Amos is scheduled to participate in the Third International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria in Kuwait on 31 March.

The appalling humanitarian situation inside Syria and conditions for refugees and the communities hosting them in neighbouring countries continue to worsen. Over 12 million people, including 5.6 million children, now need assistance inside Syria, while some 3.9 million people are registered as refugees in Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq and Egypt.

The conference aims to rally vital international financial support to meet their basic humanitarian needs and to support resilience-building in communities hosting refugees.

The conference will be chaired by the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, and hosted by the Amir of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
