The Office of the First Lady expresses grave concern and sorrow over the ongoing attacks and siege on the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighbourhoods of Aleppo.
What is unfolding is first and foremost a humanitarian catastrophe. Civilians, including women, children, the elderly and families already displaced by years of conflict, are once again trapped under bombardment and collective punishment. Homes, schools and medical facilities have been struck, while access to water, electricity, fuel, healthcare and education has been deliberately severed.
The continued use of heavy weaponry, indiscriminate shelling, drones and siege tactics in densely populated areas constitutes a clear violation of international humanitarian law and basic human decency. The lack of meaningful protection for civilians, coupled with the obstruction of humanitarian access, has left injured children, pregnant women and the critically ill without lifesaving care.
The Office of the First Lady calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities, the lifting of the siege and unhindered humanitarian access to all affected communities. Civilians must never be used as leverage, and humanitarian aid must not be politicised or obstructed.
The international community bears a moral and legal responsibility to act decisively, providing humanitarian relief, protecting civilians and holding those responsible for these violations accountable.
