International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement condemns attack on SARC aid distribution centre in Hamadaniya, Aleppo

Damascus / Geneva, 8 February 2017 – The Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) condemn today’s attack on a SARC distribution centre in Hamadaniya, Aleppo. One SARC staff member was killed. Seven SARC volunteers and staff were injured – three of them severely. Two beneficiaries who had come to the centre to receive humanitarian aid also died, and several others were injured.

SARC first aid teams are evacuating the injured to hospital.

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement reminds all parties to the conflict of their duty to respect and protect humanitarian workers and the right of people to receive humanitarian aid. Aid is not a target.
