SITUATION OVERVIEW

As of January 2025, hostilities continue to severely impact civilians and infrastructure, notably damaging water stations and power stations, which has reduced water and electricity access especially in Aleppo. Due to fighting at the Tishreen Dam in Eastern Aleppo, affecting water and electricity for more than 400,000 people. Humanitarian access remains restricted due to closed border crossings and damaged infrastructure, complicating aid delivery.

Over 627,000 individuals are newly displaced, while over 522,000 have returned to their homes. Critical health services are strained due to fuel shortages, and the overall economic situation is dire, affecting food security and access to basic needs. Efforts are ongoing to provide humanitarian assistance in various sectors, including health, nutrition, and shelter, while addressing the urgent needs of the population.

With significant displacement and ongoing instability in Syria, assessments and situation reports reveals that a large percentage of households struggle with food insecurity, economic hardship, inadequate shelter, and limited access to essential services. Despite some improvements in security and a gradual return of displaced families, barriers remain in accessing livelihoods, housing, and basic necessities, which are compounded by social and cultural changes due to the prolonged conflict. NGOs operating in Syria need a comprehensive approach for humanitarian coordination to address these persistent and systemic issues.

This situation report presents findings on the multifaceted needs of crisis-affected communities, emphasizing challenges across various sectors including food security, economic wellbeing, health, education, and protection togerther with IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation’s responses in the humanitarian crisis in Syria.
