1. Situation Update

One month after the deadly earthquake, millions of Syrians remain in need of more collective actions to address the immense impact of this tragedy. The cumulative shocks over the years had a severe impact on value chains and physical assets, such as energy and water systems. Funding stands out as a significant challenge for emergency response efforts. Likewise, lack of funding is hindering the support for the extremely needed long-term recovery of the affected communities in Syria.

ERL partners are stepping up efforts to the recovery needs generated by the earthquakes. A number of the identified needs by ERL partners include immediate support in debris removal in the affected governorates. Partners are undertaking debris removal according to the safety and security approach as included in the checklist circulated by the ERL sector to the partners. In addition, assessments stressed the urgent need for the restoration of basic and social services in earthquake-affected areas. Additionally, there is a collective call for a broad needs assessment to inform recovery interventions to address both urban and rural livelihoods for the affected populations.
