Action For Humanity Statement on the Humanitarian Situation in Daraa and Suwayda

Action For Humanity, the parent NGO of Syria Relief, expresses deep concern over the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian conditions in southern Syria, in particular in the governorates of Daraa and Suwayda. In the last few weeks, intensified military operations across towns and villages have triggered a growing crisis displacing an estimated 192,000 civilians as of the beginning of August. The situation has been further exacerbated by Israeli airstrikes.

In Daraa, the scale of displacement continues to rise with urgent humanitarian needs emerging around shelter, food supplies, clean water, access to medicine and protection services. Vulnerable groups - especially children, the elderly and marginalised groups - face heightened risks and require immediate and targeted support.

In Suwayda, the humanitarian situation is also deteriorating amid reported shortages in essential services and restrictions on freedom of movement. Displaced civilians are largely dependent on informal shelter arrangements with relatives and friends and severe food insecurity persists. Water supply disruptions caused by power outages are further raising serious concerns about contamination and public health.

We urge all key stakeholders to act swiftly and decisively to address the urgent needs of affected populations in southern Syria. A coordinated, well-resourced response plan is essential to prevent further deterioration and to ensure that civilians - especially those most vulnerable - receive the protection and support they need. All humanitarian efforts must be guided by the principles of humanity, impartiality and neutrality, ensuring assistance reaches those in need without delay or discrimination. Lastly, we call for an immediate de-escalation of violence and a firm rejection of external influence which continues to exacerbate civilian suffering and hinder recovery efforts.
