  • As of 4 December 2012, the yellow fever vaccination coverage for Central Darfur was 77%, for North Darfur – 88.5%, South Darfur – 55% and West Darfur – 91.5%.

  • The outbreak has affected 33 localities in Central, South, West, North, and East Darfur. As of 4 December, the total number of suspected cases has reached 732, including 165 deaths (case fatality rate of 22.5%).

  • WHO has recommended the emergency response vaccination campaign should be implemented in all affected and considered high risk localities in Darfur. Phase 2 of the campaign will commence next week targeting a population of 1.2 million. For phase 3 of the campaign, an additional two million population will be vaccinated.

  • An agreement has been made by WHO with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) to release the 2.2 million doses held at BioMaguinhos. This will complete the yellow fever vaccination campaign strategy in Darfur. WHO will negotiate a similar price to that of the emergency stockpile.
