Doha, Jan. 18 (SUNA) - The Workshop of International Experts on the Peace Process in Darfur Monday began sittings in the Qatari capital, Doha. The opening sitting was addressed by the Qatari State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed bin Abdalla Al Mahmoud, the joint mediator of the UN - African Union, Djibril Bassole. Representatives of the Arab League, the African Union, the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) and the UN - African Union Mission for Darfur (UNAMID) are participating in the workshop. The workshop discussed the steps adopted to consolidate and expand accord in the Darfuri society, the relations between Sudan and Chad and the efforts for enhancing the situation in Darfur. The Qatari State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed bin Abdalla Al Mahmoud, said at the workshop that the State of Qatar is coordinating efforts with the joint mediator of the UN and the African Union, Djibril Bassole, for reaching a comprehensive solution for Darfur issue, adding that Doha is optimistic that this goal will be achieved. He said that the objective of the workshop is to inform the international community, the participants and other concerned circles about the visions and action plans being conducted by the joint mediation, the impediments facing this work, the accomplishments achieved so far and the exchange of views about these issues. Al Mahmoud said that the workshop will review the support of the international community and its continuity for reaching a comprehensive peace in Darfur as well as the benefiting from the experiences of the participants at the workshop.
