Highlights

In December 2024, the prices of some essential crops and livestock experienced notable decreases:

• Sorghum: Prices dropped significantly to SDG 1,599 per kilogram, reflecting a 12% decrease from November 2024 but a sharp 249% increase compared to December 2023.

• Wheat Flour: Prices fell to SDG 2,814 per kilogram, marking a 6% decrease from the previous month and a 146% year-on-year increase.

• Goats: The average price decreased to SDG 124,693 per head, showing a 2% decrease from the previous month but a substantial 181% increase compared to December 2023.

• Groundnuts: Prices sharply increased to SDG 47,673 per kantar, representing a 16% rise from the previous month, though still 84% higher year-on-year.

• WFP Local Food Basket: The cost increased to SDG 2,090 per unit, a 7% rise from the previous month, and a significant 153% year-on-year increase.

• Sudanese Pound: Slightly appreciated by 1% in the parallel market to around 2,445 SDG per USD yet remains 122% depreciated compared to the same period last year.
