WFP Sudan Country Brief - February 2026

Attachments

  • In February, WFP assisted 3.3 million people, distributing 17,100 mt of food and USD 12 million cash. 1.2 million people were reached in areas projected as already facing or at risk of catastrophic hunger impacts, covering 95 percent of the 1.3 million food-insecure population in those locations.
  • In February, WFP reached 389,000 in the northeast region, 155,000 in the central and south regions, 912,000 in Darfur states, 208,000 in Khartoum state, and 288,000 in the Kordofan states.
  • Insecurity across Sudan continues to complicate WFP operations, with drone strikes and active fighting affecting movements, facilities, and personnel. Aerial attacks on contracted trucks, warehouses, guesthouses, and monitoring teams have caused commodity losses, infrastructure damage, and injuries. This volatility is driving dispatch delays, impacting access, and increasing risks for WFP staff and partners.
  • Regular UNHAS flights to and from Khartoum commenced on 26 February.
  • WFP urgently requires additional funding to sustain its response in Sudan. In February, WFP’s beneficiary numbers declined by 14 percent compared to same time last year mainly due to funding constraints.
