Highlights
In October 2024, there were slight fluctuations in the prices of essential commodities.
▪ The price of sorghum rose slightly to SDG 2,074 per kilogram, marking a modest 3% increase from September 2024 and a sharp 387% rise compared to October 2023.
▪ Wheat flour experienced a significant decrease, with prices falling to SDG 3,273 per kilogram, an 8% drop from the previous month and a 186% decrease compared to the same period last year.
▪ The average price of goats edged up to SDG 122,750 per head, showing a slight 4% increase from last month and a steep 216% rise from October 2023.
▪ In contrast, groundnut prices saw a notable increase, reaching SDG 48,085 per kantar, reflecting a 10% rise from last month and a substantial 68% increase compared to the same period last year.
▪ The cost of the WFP Local Food Basket decreased to SDG 2,117/1 unit, representing a 5% decline from the previous month and a significant 218% rise compared to October 2023.
“Additionally, the Sudanese pound remained constrained in the parallel market, appreciating by 3% to around 2,522 SDG per USD, though still reflecting a 163% depreciation compared to October 2023. This highlights persistent inflation and currency challenges, further straining households' ability to meet basic needs."
