Key Points

  • People affected by fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Sudan People’s Liberation Movement - North (SPLM-N) continue to be displaced. So far some 131,000 refugees have been registered in South Sudan and Ethiopia

  • In Abyei, 200 displaced people have returned to Abyei town and more returnees are expected.

  • A road convoy carrying some 1,700 people bound for South Sudan departed from Jebel Aulia in Khartoum on 24 March. This convoy, travelling via South Kordofan, is part of a return movement organized by the Government of South Sudan.

  • Updated figures indicate that in 2011 a total of 140,000 displaced people and refugees returned to their homes in Darfur. This includes 109,000 returns of internally displaced people and 31,000 refugee returns from Chad.
