Highlights
· Cholera cases continue to spread across Sudan, as of now, Cholera has been reported in all states except Central Darfur. Since January 2025, a total of 32,070 suspected cases and 742 deaths have been recorded, with a case fatality rate (CFR) of 2.3 per cent. Cumulatively, from July 2024 to date, 83,010 cases and 2,121 deaths have been reported across 17 out of 18 states and 110 out of 189 localities
· The Cholera outbreak is affecting internal displacement as well as Refugees settlements in Sudan. So far, a total of 11,529 cases and 165 deaths (CFR 1.4 per cent) have been reported in internal displacement sites, while refugee settlements have reported 278 cases and 15 deaths (CFR 5.4 per cent).
· In Darfur, UNICEF established 19 Oral Rehydration Points in South Darfur, East Darfur, North Darfur and supporting two Cholera Treatment Centers in South Darfur and West Darfur giving access to treatment services to around 57,000 people living in Cholera affected areas.
· Since January 2025, UNICEF has consistently supported the provision of safe water, benefiting 2.5 million individuals. This cumulative achievement stems from sustained activities in water trucking, chlorination, enhanced storage solutions, and operational and maintenance support for water treatment plants. In just the past two weeks, an additional 120,000 people gained access to safe drinking water through ongoing water trucking and the construction of new solar-powered water sources.
· In 2025, over 2 million people have been reached through hygiene promotion activities and essential WASH supplies. Notably, 108,000 of these individuals were reached in the past two weeks of June 2025.
· In line with the Cholera prevention efforts Oral Cholera Vaccine campaigns, during the reporting period, had been completed in Khartoum and North Kordofan reaching 2,360,723 (86 per cent) and 206,643 (75 per cent) respectively. An additional 1,105,198 doses had been approved to implement a reactive vaccination campaign in Sennar (Sennar State), Nyala Shimal and Nyala Janoub (South Darfur State).
· Social behaviour change and risk communication efforts continued in Khartoum, River Nile, Blue Nile, South Kordofan, Gedarif and White Nile states in Sudan, focusing on coordination, robust community mobilization, and impactful awareness campaigns, to promote Cholera prevention practices and encourage early care seeking. Cumulatively, a total 182,994 people were engaged through community dialogues, lectures, and awareness sessions out of them 22,000 receiving essential water, sanitation and hygiene supplies (soap, jerry cans, hygiene kits, and aqua tabs)
· Out of the $30.6 funding required for this cholera outbreak response, UNICEF has received commitments from partners for approximately $6.3 million funding and support.
