Highlights

  • One hundred days since armed conflict broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan, over 3.3 million people have been displaced, including 2.6 million internally and over 742,000 outside the country in search of safety and security.

  • Negotiation talks led by the KSA and USA have reportedly resumed with the return of SAF in Jeddah while separate mediation efforts have also been initiated by Egypt and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development. However, the security situation in the country remains volatile particularly in Khartoum and the Darfur and Kordofan regions. In the two areas of South Kordofan State and Blue Nile State, clashes between the SAF and Sudan People’s Liberation Movement—North have been reported.

  • UNHCR remains committed to staying and delivering in Sudan. Following separate missions by UNHCR’s Assistant High Commissioner for Operations and Director for the Division of Emergency, Security and Supply, UNHCR Sudan will strengthen security risk management and expand the IDP response in the country.

  • UNHCR is leading the Protection, Emergency Shelter/Non-Food Item, and Site Management sectors in Sudan, following the activation of the Site Management sector in July 2023.
