UNAMID JSR receives US Special Envoy for Sudan

04 May 2011 - The Joint Special Representative (JSR) for Darfur, Ibrahim Gambari, today hosted the United States Special Envoy for Sudan, Princeton Lyman, during his first visit to the El Fasher headquarters of the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), since the Envoy's appointment on 31 March 2011. Also in the US delegation was US senior advisor for Darfur, Dane Smith.

During the meeting, participants discussed the ongoing Doha mediation, the security situation in Darfur, recent robust efforts by UNAMID to ensure expanded access for delivery of humanitarian assistance to conflict-affected areas and the Darfur Political Process. They agreed that the UN, AU and US, along with the rest of the international community, would continue work together to support the peace process in Darfur.
