Gender in Humanitarian Action (GiHA) Working Groups are integral to the in-country humanitarian architecture, contributing to strategic, policy, and decision-making at the Humanitarian Coordinator (HC) and Humanitarian Country Team (HCT) levels. They enable clusters and sectors to comply with the IASC’s Gender Policy and its Accountability Framework. GiHA Working Groups collaborate with clusters and sectors to integrate gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls (GEEWG) into humanitarian assessment, planning, programming, and decision-making processes, as well as the implementation of humanitarian responses across the humanitarian–development–peace (HDP) nexus.
By doing so, GiHA Working Groups strengthen the accountability of humanitarian actors for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, in line with the IASC’s Gender Policy and its Accountability Framework. Their focus is on providing cross-sectoral support—technical, capacity-building, and analytical—to all humanitarian actors to enhance the integration of GEEWG in humanitarian action. This support bolsters cluster functions and reinforces the accountability of humanitarian actors as stipulated by the IASC’s Gender Policy and its Accountability Framework. In this context, Sudan’s national Gender in Humanitarian Action Working Group is established to support clusters in integrating gender considerations within their activities.
