The talks in Doha between the Sudanese government and the separatist Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) are said to be in an advanced stage. Representatives from both sides have confirmed that the signing of a memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is just a matter of time. The document, said the JEM spokesman Ahmed Hussein, "constitutes the base to resume mutual trust, from which to begin to stop the violence against refugees in the camps, the forced repatriation of refugees, the bombardment of inhabited areas and the exchange of refugees". However, there was no hint of a ceasefire to end the ongoing violence, which was still evident as far as last week, in various areas of Darfur. The talks, mediated by the African Union, the Arab League and Qatar aim toward a resumption of the peace process between the government and JEM, which have never resumed after reaching a stall in 2007 [AB]
