The Joint United Nations/ African Union Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) has appealed to the conflicting parties in Jebel Moon to allow an investigative team into the area. In the past two days, Jebel Moon has witnessed clashes between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the SLM- Abdul Wahid Nur faction. UNAMID Spokesperson, Noureddine Al Mezni, said that the mission has no presence in the region as the area is a SLM stronghold. Al Mezni stressed that UNAMID should have access to all areas in Darfur to effectively perform peacekeeping duties.
He added UNAMID is currently receiving information about the situation in Jebel Moon through aid organizations operating in the area
A leading member in the SLM-Nur faction, Ibrahim Al Hilu, said that his movement has launched attacks in Jebel Moon and Gulu area in Jebel Marra. He said the attacks were in retaliation to an attack carried out by the SAF on SLM-Nur positions
