Sudan: Situation in El Fashir returns to normal, North Darfur's governer says

The governor of North Darfur state, Othman Yousif Kibir confirmed that the situation is now calm in El Fashir town, after clashes that occurred near the town yesterday, between the Sudanese army and fighters of Justice and Equality Movement. Speaking to Miraya FM, he said SAF has succeeded to repel the joint forces of JEM and SLM-Unity faction, at about eighty (80) km east of El Fashir.

The Governor denied that there are currently ongoing battles between the two sides, describing the attack by the rebels, on an area 20 km east of El Fashir, as an attempt to draw attention from the real battle ground in Al Muhajiriya, as he puts it.

Kibir further denied the shooting down of government planes by Justice and Equality Movement.
