Executive Summary

- As Non-Food Item (NFI) & Emergency Shelter (ES) Sector Lead, UNJLC has been working with partners to develop an effective operational plan for 2009, to be included in the UN & Partners Work Plan. In total, 17 projects were submitted by partners to support the Rest of Sudan (ROS) region. Sector inputs were submitted to OCHA in preparation for the Defenses, which are due to take place mid-October.

- In September, the NFI & ES Sector supported 4,532 households in ROS, including 2,056 households supported by SRCS with stocks from their own pipeline in addition to 2,476 households were served with non-food items and emergency shelter from the NFI Common Pipeline.

- The Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) is spotlighted in this month's update. SRCS has played a key role in responding to the non-food item needs of households severely affected by flooding in ROS, supporting 1,563 households in September with Common Pipeline NFI in six of the nine ROS states affected by floods.

- UNJLC encourages all partners to share information about their other pipeline and/or supplementary NFI activities.
