Sudan: Prof. Ghandour Informs Representative of UN Secretary General on Arrangements for Holding the Elections

Khartoum, Jan. 17 (SUNA)- The Political Secretary of the National Congress, Prof. Ibrahim Ghandour, received in his office at the headquarters of the National Congress Sunday the Representative of the UN Secretary General in Sudan, Ashraf Qazi, and reviewed the ongoing arrangements for holding the elections in the country. Prof. Ghandour has responded to queries of Ashraf Qazi on ways for guaranteeing the freedom of political practicing and fairness, honesty and transparency of the election process and the possibility of conducting the elections in south Sudan and Darfur. In a press statement after the meeting, Prof. Ghandour said that the meeting was focused on holding of the elections, completing implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) and claims of the national opposition on the elections. Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Political Sector at the National Congress, Ahmed Ibarhim Al-Tahir, indicated that consultations are continuing to announce the candidates of the National Congress for the elections in south Sudan at all levels.
