Sudan: New clashes in Khor Abeche

17 December 2010 - UNAMID reported today that Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Sudan Liberation Army / Minni Minawi (SLA/MM) elements started fighting at 1400 hrs in Khor Abeche village, located 80km northeast of Nyala, in South Darfur. This fighting was reportedly still ongoing at 1730 hrs.

There are indications of combatant casualties being treated at UNAMID camp, but number and classification of injured is yet to be established. Khor Abeche population is gathered at the Mission's team site, under the protection of the peacekeepers.

This incident follows two attacks by SAF in the locality on 10 and 11 December.
