Sudan: Minister at the Presidency of the Republic acquainted with progress in DDR programmes
Khartoum, Dec. 16 (SUNA) - The Minister
at the Presidency of the Republic and Chairman of the National Council
for Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR), Gen. Bakri Hassan
Salih, has got acquainted with the progress being achieved with regard
to the programmes of the DDR toward enhancing the implementation of the
Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA). He affirmed the commitment of the
state to coordinate with the United Nations to implement the DDR programmes.
This came when the Gen. Salih received the Special Representative of the
Secretary General of the United Nations in Sudan, Ashraf Qazi, at his office
at the Republican Palace Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Secretary General of
the National Council for the DDR, Brig. Osman Nouri, said in a statement
to the press that the Minister of the Presidency of the Republic has reflected
the appreciation of the government of Sudan to the role being played by
the international donors in supporting the programmes of the DDR. He added
that Minister at Presidency of the Republic has issued a decision setting
up a joint committee to enhance coordination of Sudan, UN and the International
donors and to deliberate about issues of the DDR programmes and ways to
remove any obstacles facing the implementation of these programmes. Brig.
Nouri pointed out that the Minister of the Presidency at the Republic called
on the donors to live up to their commitments to support the DDR programmes.
