Sudan: Lakes state's government holds emergency meeting to deal with aftermath of recent violence
The government of Lakes State is holding
an emergency session on Saturday, in an attempt to deal with the aftermath
of recent clashes which took place in northern Rumbek County and claimed
the lives of tens of citizens, including SPLA soldiers. Speaking to Miraya
FM, Lakes State Deputy Governor, David Nuak Marial, confirmed that after
police reinforcement, the security situation is now stable. The state's
Legislative Assembly called for an emergency session on Monday. The Assembly's
Spokesperson, Gordon Mathur, condemned the acts of violence, and urged
all United Nations agencies to intervene to curb the deteriorating humanitarian
situation in the area. He further pointed out that hundreds of citizens
have fled their homes
