Sudan INGO Forum Statement On the Security Incident Affecting Humanitarian Staff in Central Darfur [EN/AR]

Attachments

The Sudan INGO Forum expresses its deep concern following the recent serious security incident in Central Darfur, in which five humanitarian staff and two vehicles from Humanity & Inclusion (HI) were held by armed actors for 48 hours along the Zalingei–Nertiti road.

We are grateful for the swift and coordinated efforts of community leaders, local authorities, and other relevant actors that led to the safe release of our colleagues. At the same time, we are alarmed that such a serious security incident could occur along a corridor that is vital for the delivery of life-saving assistance across Darfur. This road remains a key humanitarian artery, connecting critical areas of need.

This incident underscores the urgent need to reinforce collective efforts to ensure the safety of humanitarian personnel and the integrity of humanitarian access across all regions of Sudan. We ask for sustained engagement by community leaders, local authorities, and armed actors to reduce the risk of similar events in the future and enable the continued delivery of humanitarian aid to the area.

The Sudan INGO Forum will continue to work with all relevant stakeholders to strengthen coordination and explore shared solutions that safeguard humanitarian principles and protect the people and communities we serve.

We reiterate our commitment to principled, impartial humanitarian action, and call on all parties to support a safe and enabling environment for aid workers across the country
