OVERVIEW
Fighting in Sudan has resulted in devastating consequences for civilians. Over 4.1 million people have been internally displaced across the country. Many others have been cut off from access to basic services in Khartoum, Darfur and Kordofan states. Prices of food commodities, when available, continue to soar. The protection of civilians remains a key concern, with reports of increased sexual and gender-based violence as well as reports of family separation and child recruitment. Access to health continues to be hampered by the ongoing conflict. Health facilities lack sufficient staff and supplies, and are barely functional in some areas.
Delivery of humanitarian assistance has been constrained by insecurity, looting and bureaucratic impediments. Despite the challenges, **117 **humanitarian partners have reached about 3.5 million people with life-saving assistance from April to 15 August. Prior to the conflict, 2.7 million people were reached from January to March. This includes provision of vital education, health, food, nutrition, water and protection assistance.
Humanitarian organizations require US$2.6 billion to support 18.1 million people with multi-sectoral with multi-sectoral assistance and protection services until the end of the year, but only $638 million (24.9 per cent) has been received as of 15 August.
