HIGHLIGHTS

In East Sudan, the inaccessibility of areas in Telkuk & Hamash Keryobe due to land mines has been a major concern in the delivery of humanitarian as-sistance. With the onset of the rainy season, WHO and SMoH are now pre-paring to cover needs of the population who might be affected by the conse-quences of heavy rains and floods in East Sudan.

  • After receiving the first case of heat stroke at the treatment centre in East Sudan this week, the State’s heat stroke task force met and reviewed its preparedness and response plan for the State.

  • Rehabilitation works for the health centres in Abu Odam and Hassaballa in South Darfur have been completed. These facilities will provide primary healthcare services to returnees.

  • In preparation for the rainy season, WHO and water, environment and sani-tation (WES) conducted an inventory of 18 boreholes connected to Geneina town in West Darfur and the main filling stations were identified for chlorina-tion activities.

  • To support the training of community volunteers on IMCI community compo-nent in North Darfur, WHO organized a 5 day training course for volunteers in ZamZam IDP camp, targeting 82 volunteers from the local IDP community.
