Sudan - Floods, update (UNOCHA, Sudan Meteorological Authority) (ECHO Daily Flash of 06 September 2024)

  • Heavy rainfall has been affecting Sudan since June, causing floods that have resulted in casualties and damage. This further exacerbates an already dire humanitarian situation and increases the risk of disease outbreaks, including cholera due to stagnant flood waters.
  • As of 5 September, UN OCHA reports 69 fatalities, 112 injured people, 143,200 displaced, and more than 491,100 affected people across 63 localities in 15 states. The most affected are North Darfur, Red Sea, Northern, South Darfur, and River Nile states. In addition, 35,518 houses have been destroyed and 44,993 have been damaged.
  • On 6-7 September, more rainfall is forecast over the southern part of Sudan.
