Sudan - Floods (media, IOM, Sudan Meteorological Authority) (ECHO Daily Flash of 06 August 2024)

  • Heavy rainfall continues to affect Sudan, resulting in increased flooding, casualties and damage.
  • Since last week’s report, 20 additional persons lost their lives, bringing the death toll to at least 32, while 107 people have been injured in seven states.
  • The floods damaged more than 5,575 houses and the rising levels of the Gash River now endanger Kassala city in Kassala State (Eastern Sudan).
  • As of 5 August, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) reports 21,370 displaced people, up from 10,178 last week, along with 7,863 damaged or destroyed structures across Aj Jazirah, Central Darfur, Kassala, Khartoum, North Darfur, North Kordofan, Northern, Red Sea, River Nile, West Darfur, and White Nile states since 1 June.
  • On 6-7 August, more rainfall is expected in the Eastern and Western parts of the country. A severe alert warning has been issued in Red Sea, River Nile, Northern, Kassala, Al Qadarif, Sennar, Al Jazirah, Khartoum, White Nile, North Kurdufan, North Darfur and West Darfur.
