1. ACCORDING TO REPORTS OF UN OPERATION LIFELINE SUDAN (OLS), HEAVY RAINFALL AND FLOODING IN UPPER NILE AND JONGLEI HAD BEEN REPORTED SINCE LATE JUNE.

2. WORST AFFECTED ARE AREAS IN SOUTHERN SUDAN NEAR ETHIOPIAN BORDER, INCLUDING POCHALLA, MOTOT, YUAI, WALGAK, WAAT, PADING, BOMA, AND SURROUNDING TOWNS. IN POCHALLA, SOME 15,000 PEOPLE WERE REPORTED TO HAVE BEEN STRANDED BY FLOODS. DAMAGE TO CROPS AND FOOD RESERVES, AS WELL AS TO MANY HOMES IS ALSO INDICATED.

3. OLS NEEDS ASSESSMENT TEAM IS CURRENTLY IN POCHALLA. STARTING 13 AUGUST, OLS BEGINS RELIEF OPERATIONS TO PROVIDE FOOD AND MEDICAL SUPPLIES. PRELIMINARY ESTIMATE INDICATES RELIEF NEEDS TO BE FOOD, FISHING EQUIPMENT, SHELTER MATERIALS, AND MEDICINES.

4. DHA, IN COOPERATION WITH UN RESIDENT COORDINATOR IN KHARTOUM AND NAIROBI-BASED OLS, CONTINUES TO MONITOR DEVELOPMENTS, AND WILL PROVIDE FURTHER UPDATES ON SITUATION AS THEY BECOME AVAILABLE.

5. FOR COORDINATION PURPOSES, DONORS ARE REQUESTED TO INFORM DHA-GENEVA, AS INDICATED BELOW, OF BILATERAL RELIEF MISSION/PLEDGES/ CONTRIBUTIONS AND THEIR CORRESPONDING VALUE BY ITEM.

6. IN ADDITION, MEDIA IS REPORTING SEPARATE FLOODING IN EIGHT VILLAGES IN CENTRAL SUDANESE PROVINCE OF GITENA, CAUSED BY HEAVY RAINS IN PAST FEW DAYS.
