Sudan: Directors in education complain of high cost of books and lack of funds for research

A number of Directors in the field of education complained from the high cost of the text books, and they called for necessary funds to be provided for the national Curriculum and Educational Research. During a conference held in Khartoum on education, the head of the National Center for Curriculum and Educational Research Professor, Abdel Rahim Ahmed Salim, that it is not possibile for the Center to get support due to some laws. He said that free education policy has been enshrined in the 2005 constitution, but it can only be gained through legislation.

Meanwhile, the Federal minister of education, Dr. Hamid Mohamed Ibrahim, stressed the significance of the conference. He praised the participation of South Sudan,responding to the directives made by the first vice president, Salva kiir Mayardit. Its the first time that South Sudan participates in such a conference. Minster of Education in the lake states, Malwal Machot, and the representative of the other South Sudan states, described the conference as national effort towards unity of the country.
