Sudan: Difficult start for new academic school year

As the 2010/2011 academic year for Basic and Secondary schools kicks off in Khartoum and a number of northern Sudan states, teachers and students complained of a number of difficulties.

The headmaster of Bury Al-Lamaab Secondary School for Girls in Khartoum cited lack of textbooks as one of the challenges. While a number of Students at the school expressed readiness to start the year.

In Senar State, headmaster of Mustagbal Seconday School, Ahmed Al-Nabal, said that the challenges facing the new academic year was the rainy season. He said that most of the schools in the State had been inundated by rain.

Al Nabal said that the agricultural season was just starting as such most of the students would be preoccupied with farming activities.

The Federal Ministry of General Education had earlier said that preparations had been completed for the new academic year.
