Sudan: Darfur Crisis Rain Timeline - June 9, 2005

Time remaining before seasonal rains cut off sites in Darfur and Eastern Chad

Seasonal rains have begun in southern parts of Darfur and Eastern Chad. As the rains continue, much of Darfur and Eastern Chad will be cut off. While large towns in Darfur may be accessible, surrounding areas will be difficult to access. All efforts should be made to provide refugees and IDPs with shelter and to preposition or distribute relief supplies to last through the rainy season. Already rains have begun in the Southern Darfur and southern West Darfur. Northern areas, like El Fasher will start to experience heavy seasonal rains by the end of June. By the end of July, the rains will cover the entire region.
