The WFP-led Emergency Telecommunications Cluster (ETC) was activated on 25 May 2023 to support the humanitarian response to the conflict that began on 15 April 2023. ETC Situation Reports are produced monthly.
Highlights
• Between 09-20 July, the ETC conducted groundwork for its first connectivity hub at the WFP Khartoum office, following improved access conditions in the capital.
• On 22 July, the ETC and WFP deployed a pilot mobile network to the Alshahinat refugee site in Port Sudan, enabling 240 refugees to access digital cash transfers and banking services using their UNHCR credentials, made possible by the ETC’s upgraded user management system.
• On 03 July, ETC delivered hands-on security telecommunications training in Port Sudan to 15 staff from UNDSS, IOM, UNDP, WHO, and International Medical Corps (IMC), covering both HF and VHF radio operations.
