The WFP-led Emergency Telecommunications Cluster (ETC) was activated on 25 May 2023 to support the humanitarian response following the outbreak of conflict on 15 April 2023. ETC Situation Reports (SitReps) are produced monthly.
Highlights
- From 19 to 26 June, the ETC took part in an inter-agency mission to Khartoum to assess the feasibility of scaling up humanitarian operations. The mission focused on evaluating available telecommunications infrastructure, identifying critical needs and gaps to support future response efforts.
- Throughout June, the ETC continued expanding upgrades to the Sudan network, enhancing connectivity at key sites in Port Sudan. Improvements were rolled out to the offices of UNMAS, UNOPS, and WFP, as well as the guesthouses of WFP, IMC, and UNDSS. These sites now benefit from cloudbased controllers and a dedicated link to the WFP office in Hai al Matar, ensuring more reliable bandwidth.
- On 29 June, the ETC conducted an assessment at Al-Hishan IDP camp following a request from the Protection Cluster. The visit aimed to inform plans for future electricity provision, based on findings and recommendations from the field.
