About the weekly cholera snapshot

A cholera outbreak was declared in Sudan on 26 September 2023, happening at a time when the country is engulfed in conflict, creating an extremely challenging environment for an effective cholera outbreak response. Despite the challenges, WHO and health partners with Sudan’s federal and state ministries of health launched a response strategy encompassing key response pillars: surveillance, case management, water, sanitation and hygiene, oral cholera vaccines and risk communication and community engagement. Each of these pillars have played and continue to play a crucial role in the response to the cholera outbreak.

The Sudan Cholera Snapshot will feature a single aspect of the cholera response per issue, starting with Risk Communication and Community Engagement in this first issue.
