Sudan: Bangladeshi Logistics Unit begins deployment to Darfur
The first group of the Bangladeshi Multi-role
Logistics Unit, comprising of 163 personnel, arrived in Nyala, South Darfur,
today giving UNAMID the much needed boost in logistical support. The remaining
162 officers are expected to arrive tomorrow. Today's deployment brings
the total number of UNAMID Forces in Darfur to 8,917. Bangladesh is the
second largest contributor of uniformed personnel to United Nations peacekeeping
operations, with more than 9,000 troops and police serving around the world.
Its current deployment in Darfur includes one formed police unit (FPU)
also deployed in South Darfur, and a total of 53 individual police advisers.
