Sudan: 190 SPLA child soldiers demobilised in Kurmuk

190 child soldiers have been demobilized from the Sudan Peoples' Liberation Army (SPLA) in Kurmuk, in Blue Nile state on Wednesday. Representative of United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), Nelson Castburg, called for provision of protection and social welfare for the children, adding that UNICEF will work with all concerned parties to guarantee their safety.

The Mayor of Kurmuk, Steven Adam, urged the concerned authorities to demobilize the remaining forces in the area, including the Popular Defense Force. The recent demobilization exercise is considered the last in a process which collectively demobilized 220 minors in the state. The children have been reunited with their families in Kurmuk, Gaisan, Bau, Tadhamon and Russeirus in the state.
