Resumption of the Plenary Session of the Inter-Sudanese Talks on Darfur

The Fifth Round of the Inter-Sudanese Talks on Darfur resumed this morning ,12th June 2005, in a plenary under the chairmanship of Dr Salim Ahmed Salim, Special Envoy of the AU for the Peace Talks on Darfur. The session was attended by all the Parties, Facilitators, Partners and Observers.

Dr Salim presented a briefing on the result of the consultations that the Mediation Team had with the Parties during the past two days.

In his briefing, Dr Salim outlined the Agenda, the method of work, the code of conduct to be abided by all Parties, in particular, with regard to the interaction with the media and relations with the Partners.

Furthermore, Dr Salim stated that the Declaration of Principles (DoP) will be the first item on the Agenda for consideration by all the Parties before tackling thematic issues, such as, among others, power sharing, wealth sharing and security arrangements.

It may be mentioned that during the consultations the Parties namely the representatives of the Government of the Sudan (GoS), the delegations of the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SLM/A) and the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) reaffirmed their full support for the AU Mediation and their readiness to extend to it their cooperation in order to achieve a Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
