I. Introduction

  1. The present report is submitted pursuant to Security Council resolution 2173 (2014), by which the Council extended the mandate of the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) until 30 June 2015 and requested that I report every 90 days on the implementation of the mandate of the Mission. The report provides an update and analysis of the conflict and the politica l and operational environment in Darfur from 26 February 2015, the date of publication of my previous report (S/2015/141), until 15 May 2015. It also presents the achievements of UNAMID in implementing its revised strategic priorities endorsed by the Security Council under resolution 2148 (2014), as well as progress in addressing the challenges impeding the effective discharge of the mandate of UNAMID. In addition, the report provides an update and recommendations on the process of transferring some mandated tasks of UNAMID to the United Nations country team in the Sudan and on the development of an exit strategy for the Mission.
