Khartoum, 30 May 2012. The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Mr. Anshu Banerjee, has welcomed the release of the British humanitarian aid worker, Mr. Patrick Noonan, who was taken hostage by kidnappers in Nyala, South Darfur, on 6 March 2012. Mr. Noonan was working for the World Food Programme when he was abducted by armed men near his office in Nyala. “I can only imagine the difficulties that Mr. Noonan and his family have gone through. I am very pleased that this harrowing ordeal is now over for Mr. Noonaan,” said Mr. Banerjee. The Humanitarian Coordinator thanks the Sudanese authorities and everyone who worked to help secure Mr. Noonan’s safe release.
